May the hinges of friendship never rust....
Friday 18/10/2019 - Sunday 20/10/2019
We are delighted to announce that London Old Tablers' Society will be hosting the 2019 European Capitals Meeting (ECM) in London.
What is the ECM?
The Capitals Meeting was started in 2015 with the intention of forming links between 41 Clubs based in European Capital Cities. The first meeting in 2015 was held in Paris; the 2016 meeting was in Rome; 2017 was in Berlin, 2018 was in Brussels. LOTS is hosting the 2019 meeting in London.
What does the weekend involve?
Fun and fellowship; a chance to experience 41 Club internationally and an opportunity to showcase London!!
The weekend costs £275 (final bookings need to be received and paid for by 30/09/2019 - in exceptional circumstances we might be able to accept bookings after this date but they would be subject to an additional fee of £20 per head, and even then they couldn’t be guaranteed).
- on Friday 18th October we shall be starting with a strictly limited FREE event - a private tour of the Tower of London, and drinks at the Yeoman Warders Mess. This is a money can’t buy, free, strictly limited affair from 7pm until 11pm and will culminate after the Ceremony of the Keys, with the attendees being the last people shepherded out of the Tower of London that evening. An alternative event will be organised for anyone unlucky enough not to make the cut for the principle event. There will be a dress code - which is shown below. Prior to this there will be dinner.
- a fun walk is planned for the Saturday morning culminating in lunch, followed by free time/shopping time until...
- a Black Tie Gala Dinner on Saturday night, 19th October. This will be at the Royal Thames Yacht Club. It will be suitably lavish and entertaining. Dress code is Black Tie/Cocktail dresses (ie Tuxedo and Cocktail Dresses). Dress to impress.
- a Farewell Brunch on Sunday 20th October
Please note that there is no charge for the visit to the Tower of London - this is a special invitation only event. Those fortunate enough to do it will learn why.

Please note well the following Important Rules for your visit to the Tower of London
The dress code for our visit to the Yeoman Warders Mess is formal.
There are no exceptions to this rule and anyone fail to comply and arrive at the Tower incorrectly dressed they will be denied entry.
Gentlemen’s Dress Code
2 or 3 piece-suit. Alternatively, a blazer and a pair of trousers.
A collared shirt with a tie or bow tie.
Appropriate shoes.
Unless your host says otherwise, the jacket and tie must be worn at all times.
(Outdoor coats may be worn during the external tour.)
Ladies’ Dress Code
A dress, trouser suit or blouse & skirt/trousers.
Appropriate shoes.
(Please note that many of the paths are cobblestoned and therefore, ladies wearing high heel shoes, do so at their own risk).
(Outdoor coats maybe worn during the external tour.)
The Ceremony of the Keys
As part of your evenings visit, you will be permitted to watch the The Ceremony of the Keys.
This ceremony has taken place every night, without fail for over 700 years!
There will be other visitors watching the ceremony and on occasion there will be VIPs in attendance as well.
Given the significance of this ceremony, inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and we do expect all guests to show due reverence.
No one under any circumstances can enter or leave the Tower between 9:30pm to 10:05pm. Therefore, if any of the group needs to leave early then they must be clear of the Tower’s grounds by no later than 9:20pm.
There is absolutely no photography or video recording allowed during this ceremony.
The Yeoman Warders Mess (the Tower of London Club)
You will be invited to use the Yeoman Warder’s Mess which does stock both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There are two separate bars within the club and the group are to use the Main Bar. (The Snug Bar is a private area for the Tower Residents & HRP Staff, who are relaxing and may wish to enjoy a quiet drink in privacy of their club. Therefore, please do not enter this part of the club. )
The Club Steward is a Yeoman Warder and the bar staff are members of his/her family, who have voluntarily given up their night for your enjoyment. We therefore ask that you are patient during the busier times of service.
The Tower of London is also the home to a small community. No one is permitted to leave the immediate area of the club and explore the residential areas of the Tower.
Noise must be kept to a reasonable level, especially when leaving once the Ceremony of the Keys has been completed.
All drinks are to be consumed within the immediate area of the club. Smoking is only permitted outside the club.
The club will close at 11:30pm and all guests are to be clear of the Towers grounds by no later than 11:45pm.
There is absolutely no ‘after hours’ drinking within the club.
The above rules are not unduly onerous - if you abide by them we will all have a truly special and wonderful evening.

Who attends the meeting?
The events are open not just to all 41 Club members in European capital cities, and their spouses and partners. We also anticipate support from all members of the Round Table Family in London and their spouses/partners.
What do you need to do now?
1). Book in!!
2). Book your hotel! - see below.
Bookings are now open for the weekend.
To book in just email [email protected] and we shall send you payment details.
Cost of the weekend is £275 per person.
Suggested hotels?
London has no shortage of hotels and you are all experienced travellers. We recommend that you book a hotel in the vicinity of Tower Hill for logistical convenience. In our opinion, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel - Tower of London offers the best value in terms of accommodation and convenience.
On the other side of the river, and costing more, the Hilton London Tower Bridge also offers good value.
Still need to book a hotel?
IF YOU HAVE YET TO BOOK A HOTEL, we recommend the DoubleTree by Hilton Tower of London hotel. As you can see from the image below, you can at the time of writing (10/08/19) book a double room for £117 per night if you join Hilton Honors loyalty programme (which is free).
IN OUR OPINION THIS REPRESENTS EXCELLENT VALUE AND IS OUR RECOMMENDED OPTION.
IF YOU WOULD PREFER 5-STAR HOTELS, THE FOLLOWING SHOULD GET YOU ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
If you want to instead stay at a 5-Star luxury hotel brand, we have teamed up with Emyr Thomas who runs luxury agent Bon Vivant to offer a luxury hotel booking service for ECM2019 attendees.
Via our partnership with Emyr, you are able to book better luxury hotel deals than you could book yourself via a London-based travel agent who is committed to fast response times and excellent customer service.
If you are considering booking a luxury hotel, we recommend contacting Bon Vivant to see what special offers are available for that particular property.
Bon Vivant is an affiliate of SmartFlyer, a Virtuoso agency, which means that booking through them can give you access to benefits including upgrades, free breakfast, early check-in / late check-out and $100 hotel credits (or similar) at every Virtuoso hotel.
Most of the top hotel groups (including Mandarin Oriental, Shangri-La, Four Seasons etc) have hotels that are a part of Virtuoso and you can access these benefits by booking through Bon Vivant.
There are many hundreds of other luxury hotels globally – including many Fairmont, One & Only, Hyatt, Corinthia and InterContinental properties – where Bon Vivant can access similar deals via the Virtuoso network. At InterContinental London Park Lane, for example, you will receive free club lounge access (usually €140 / £120 per night) when you book any room at Best Flexible Rate.
Bon Vivant will make the reservation for you and send you a confirmation outlining your exclusive benefits. You pay the hotel as usual on departure. Some hotels may request a night’s refundable deposit, or similar, but this will be outlined at the time of booking.
Reservations booked under these deals are fully flexible and have the same cancellation rules as a standard booking at the same property. The price is usually the same as the flexible rate shown on the hotel website and, by negotiation, the hotel can often be persuaded to match any promotional rates.
When a hotel is part of a loyalty programme, you WILL receive points and any elite benefits as well. This is not usually the case when booking via a third party travel agent.
Contacting Bon Vivant
If you already have a hotel stay in mind and want to see what additional amenities may be available via Bon Vivant, please email Emyr Thomas at emyr.thomas AT bonvivant.co.uk and mention ECM2019.
Please be as specific as possible about your requirements. For example ‘I am looking at booking a Deluxe Room at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park for 18th to 21st March. Can you please confirm the additional benefits you can offer at this property and the rate available?’
Remember that, in most cases, you will need to book a refundable rate to unlock these additional benefits. PLEASE NOTE: this programme is NOT about getting you a cheaper rate than booking direct – it is about getting you valuable additional benefits for the same price.
Whilst we have put this in place to assist you with your plans for ECM2019, Emyr is happy to assist you with any and all hotel bookings whenever you require them but please mention ECM2019 so he knows who introduced you.

Do you want advice on choosing your hotel?
We are happy to offer advice and assistance to ensure that the hotel you book will be close to the planned events. Just email us if you want guidance or assistance.
Bed & Breakfast - remember to have breakfast at your hotel
The normal hotel tariff in the UK is one which includes breakfast so we are going to presume that you will have had breakfast in your hotel at the start of each day (and accordingly we will not be providing breakfast).
